So RSVP on facebook, (and share the facebook invite with your friends and coworkers), or just show up!

If you haven't done so yet, take a few minutes to customize your Firstgiving page, perhaps adding a photo of your 5-day old 'stache, and some words about why you're growing for the kids!  And then send that page out to everyone you know!

After a successful shaving day, our growers are welcoming the first tentative wisps on their upper lips.  We currently have 43 registered growers growing -- which sounds like an extended version of the 12 Days of Christmas.

This Thursday marks Shaving Day, the official beginning of the Mustaches for Kids DC 2011 Growing Season.  

You can mark this momentous occasion on your own, but it's much better if you celebrate with friends and fellow growers (a.k.a. future friends).  

We invite you to our Shaving Day get-together at Rhino Bar and Pumphouse, 3295 M Street NW, Washington, DC 20007.   We'll be upstairs, and you can show up clean shaven, or shave once you get there.  We'll have some Bic razors, but we recommend your bring your own gear.  And based on previous events, we recommend that you don't show up with a Mountain Man beard, or your skin will likely be paying for it the next day.  

Rhino -- whose bartenders will all be participating in this year's growing season, will also be offering specials on drinks ($8 pitchers, $2.75 Coronas, and $4 Captain Morgan drinks) and 25 cent wings!

It’s been almost a year, and our upper lips are getting restless.  We’re very excited to announce the 2011 growing (and fundraising) season for Mustaches for Kids DC, which will run from November 10 to December 8!  

Last year, we were able to raise $56,000 for the Kid’s Care Fund at Children’s National Medical Center, thanks to your mustaches, generous donations, and moral and/or logistical support, and this year we’re looking to make it $66,000 (or more).  There’s a buzz growing about M4KDC (and not the buzz of a mustache trimmer), and we’re getting ready to get started.  

“How can I get in on this year’s ‘stache-raising?”  We’re glad you asked:

1. Register on the www.m4kdc.org site, as a 2011 grower (by clicking on the "Register" tab, above, and then set up your online fundraising page at: http://firstgiving.com/CNMC/m4kdc/fundraisers.html (check on url).
2. Can’t grow a mustache this year? Help us by reaching out to recruit other potential growers (friends, boyfriends, husbands, bosses) and telling them about not only what a great cause this is for, but also just how dashing they’ll look in a 4 week-old stache.  If they’re still not convinced, we’ll have a Mustache Meet and Greet on Thursday, November 3rd to help them to stop worrying and learn to love the ‘stache.  
3. Check out our new facebook page at www.facebook.com/m4kdc, and give it a “like,” and share it with your friends. Many of you have been part of our facebook group in the past, but given Mark Zuckerberg’s latest machinations, the new page will be the best way to keep up on our events, fundraising tips, and amazing mustache trivia and swag.  

Mark your calendar: we are still finalizing the locations for all of this year’s events, and the Events page on the site will always have the latest, but we wanted to make sure you can put them on your calendar now:

• Thursday, 11/3: Mustache Meet and Greet (6:30-8 p.m., Rhino Bar, 3295 M Street NW): meet up with old friends, and bring potential new growers who have questions or concerns.
• Thursday, 11/10: Shaving Day (6:00-8:00 p.m., The Big Hunt, 1345 Connecticut Ave, NW, upstairs in the Voodoo Lounge): This is where it all starts!
• Thursday, 11/17: Checkpoint #1 (6:30 p.m., Iron Horse Tap Room, 507 7th Street, NW).  
• Thursday, 11/24: No Checkpoint for Thanksgiving: give thanks for your budding ‘stache (and raise lots of cash from family and friends).
• Thursday, 12/1: Checkpoint #2 (6:30 p.m., Iron Horse Tap Room, 507 7th Street, NW), see how your fellow growers are growing.
• Thursday, 12/8:  The 6th Annual M4KDC Stache Bash (RFD, 810 7th Street, NW, Mustache Mingling at 6:30, “The Show” begins at 7:30).  Like a cross between a beauty pageant and a police lineup, you’ve never seen this many amazing mustaches--and costumes--since Freddy Mercury volunteered with the Reno Police Force.

Mustaches for Kids DC 2011 won't officially kick off until Shaving Day on November 10th, but we're holding a "Mustache Meet and Greet" this Thursday, 11/3, at Rhino Bar and Pumphouse (3295 M Street NW, in Georgetown).

The Meet-and-Greet is a great chance for returning growers to catch up on your bare-lipped adventures over the past 11 months, and for potential new growers to ask any questions you might have before embarking on this manly quest.

If the chance to see fellow stache-aholics isn't enough, they're offering $8 pitchers, $4 Captain Morgan Drinks, $2.75 Coronas, 25 cent wings, and 10% off the food tab of any M4KDC grower!

The photo above is from the 2009 M4KDC 'Stache Bash, which raised over $35,000 for the Kids Care Fund at Children's National Medical Center.  In 2010, we raised more than $55,000. 

This year, we are aiming to raise at least $66,000 for the Kids. But we'll need your help.  And we think you're just manly enough to grow a dashing stache for cash.
