Greetings Gang.
Boy, we sure are glad Thanksgiving is almost here. With all this damp weather in D.C., we’re ready to eat a can of cranberry sauce,
a package of sliced Butterball turkey, and pass out by the hotplate. What’s your Thanksgiving tradition?
Well whatever you’re doing on Thursday, be sure to make it to CHECKPOINT #2 at Bobby Lew’s Saloon Tuesday at 6:30PM. This spot, new to the M4K repertoire, is just north of Florida Ave on 18th Street in NW.
There will be an opportunity for art as each Grower (and associated Sympathizers) will be able to create Mustache self portraits. We think this is how Rembrandt got his start too, but the historical record, like our current Mustache, is sketchy..

Mustache holders and friends of the ’stache!
It has been one week since we have seen each other, and much has happened in that time. The sun has moved around the earth a few times, gravity has continued to work, and our follicles have been working overtime.
Since Shaving Day the growers have let their facial hair grow and mature in private, but now is the time to push that fledgling ’stache out of the proverbial nest and allow it to spread its glorious wings and ‘go rogue’ in public at Checkpoint 1.
For growers, the first checkpoint is a great opportunity to measure your fundraising powers against your fellow growers/fundraising competitors and to talk some ’stache smack.
For supporters, honestly, there are few things in the world more endearing than a bunch of guys with love of charity in their hearts and one week of growth on their upper lips.
We will see you at Fado tomorrow to share growing strategies, fund raising tips, hopes, fears, and beers.

Hello all Growers and Supporters on this lip-tinglingly beautiful Tuesday in D.C.!
We here at M4KDC thought we’d take this opportunity to pass along some information about why we Grow, who we help, and how Children’s National Medical Center makes a difference in the lives of families from across the United States. Please read the story below of Mikael Martinez, written by his mother Marta, about how Children’s helped their family…and keep in mind that ALL OF YOU are working towards helping many more families through your support of Mustaches for Kids!!!
“
Children’s National Medical Center became involved with my son Mikael two months before his birth. Once he was diagnosed with hydrocephalus, the genetic, neurology, and cardiology departments went into action to assess his condition and devise a plan for Mikael’s arrival. As his brain slightly improved, they ruled out the need for brain surgery; however, it was still abnormal in size. Children’s actively advised and coordinated with our community hospital and my obstetrician.
After his birth, Mikael was diagnosed with cerebral dysgenesis. We were uncertain what this meant for our son, because there were no studies as to how this particular lack of brain development affects humans…” Read More Here.

What a great week to begin strutting your ‘Stache. Beautiful weather in D.C., a little nip in the air, and follicles full of pride knowing your ‘Stache is raising money for Children’s National Medical Center…have you started fundraising yet? Well get on it lazy-lip!!! That $470 isn’t going to “Grow” itself!!!
We know that Shaving Day pictures aren’t up yet…but fear not, the M4KDC Tech Squad over at Mustache HQ is working tirelessly to get everything ready for Checkpoint #1 on Thursday at Fado 6:30 PM!!! All Growers and Supporters should be in attendance to share the stories of their journeys during this first week of the Season…we’ve heard of severe cases of ‘Stache Rash during this prickly part of the year…See you Thursday!!!

In the words of Humphrey Bogart, “I think this is the beginning of a beautiful Mustache.”
Shaving Day was a great success, as our Growers and Sympathizers braved the rain to shave their faces, admire some cleanshaven lips for the last time in a month, and rock out with White Ford Bronco. That makes our ‘Stache happy!!! We now have 40+ Growers for the 2009 Season…an all-time high!!!
Pictures from the night will be up soon, but don’t forget to keep on fundraising, and Supporters, keep on supporting. Nothing raises less money than a Mustache that has to go it alone. We need all the Support we can get to reach our goal of $60,000 for Children’s!!!

Today, November 11th 2009, is M4KDC’s 4th Annual Shaving Day!!! We will assemble at RFD Chinatown (www.lovethebeer.com) at 6:30 PM for our official at-the-bar shave, shearing all pre-charitable upper lip hairs down to a bare minimum.
If you can’t shave at the bar, no worries, just come cleanshaven so we can take a picture of your hairless mug. Just in case you don’t have a favorite follicle torture device that you’ll be bringing to Shaving Day, we will have supplies (read: razors and shaving cream) at the bar for all Growers to use.

All Sympathizers and Donors are of course also encouraged to attend. The night should be great, as 75% veteran Growers and 90s cover band White Ford Bronco will be playing for all to enjoy and Fojol Bros. will be by to feed and entertain the mustache-loving masses.
Viva Los Kids! Viva El Bigote! See you this evening! Remember, it’s never to early/late to donate to the Kids!

Hey Everybody,
The Art of Shaving has agreed to help us in our quest to help Kids at CNMC!!! We talked to them today, and they’ll be providing some ‘Stache-cessories for all our Growers, and prizes for our ‘Stache Bash winners to help make the transition back to conventional shaving habits even smoother. You still need to keep the rest of your face in tip top shape during the Season, after all!!!
Visit them at Washington Square shopping center (L and Connecticut NW) for all your shaving needs, or online at www.theartofshaving.com.

Join us Wednesday Nov. 11th at RFD in Chinatown (www.lovethebeer.com) at 6:30pm for Shaving Day!!! BYOR (Bring Your Own Razor) to shave at the bar!!!
White Ford Bronco will play their “oral unibrows” off, showering the shavers and supporters with 90s hits. Fojol Bros. will be by with their travelling culinary festival!!! Don’t miss it!!!
More inspiration for Supporters below. Significant others can make sacrifices for the Kids, too!!!

Although they are not all “legal” in the strictest M4KDC sense, we thought the ‘Stache-spiration from the old photos available at Mustaches of the Nineteenth Century was worth its weight in liphair.
